If you consider wrapping gifts the biggest waste of time during the holidays, well…you’re probably right.

But…if you want to show your family and friends that it’s what’s on the inside AND the outside that counts, then continue reading for a little holiday wrapping inspiration that’ll add an extra layer of guilt on the recipient if they rip the paper too much.

I have always loved using brown Kraft paper for wrapping, as it’s such a versatile backdrop for any kind of ribbon or accent, so the following three variations all utilize this wood pulp workhorse.

First up I’ve got one for the kids.

My kids are absolutely obsessed with pom poms to the point where I have to toss their 3D studded artwork on the regular (I’m a monster) to clear space for their latest creations, so using this magical commodity as an accent for gift wrapping feels genius!  Let me level with you, this wrap job is a whole craft project in and of itself, so consider saving it for the biggest and best Hanukkah gift or Santa’s finest contribution.

Supplies needed:

Brown Kraft paper

Assorted pom poms

Blue + white kitchen twine or other narrow ribbon

Gift tag of your choosing or this tag and this stamp to create the unicorn gift tag of your child’s dreams

Glue gun with glue sticks

Directions:

1) Wrap your gift with Kraft paper.

2) Add your ribbon next, so you won’t be blocked by an out of place pom pom.

3) Hot glue those little suckers in a random but pleasantly spaced pattern.

4) Add your gift tag.

Next up I decided to utilize a vintage standby that always brings character to anything it touches- ric rac! It’s such a fun and playful element, and works just as well for kids as for adults.

Supplies needed:

Brown Kraft paper

Pink ric rac

Mint green gift tag

Star stamp

White ink

Pine sprig

Directions:

1) Wrap your gift with Kraft paper.

2) Tie one strand of ric rac around the gift and secure with tape on the bottom.

3) Tie two additional strands of ric rac around the gift in the opposite direction and secure with tape on the bottom.

4) Tuck a clipping from your Christmas tree or local forest (I won’t tell) between the strands.

5) Add your gift tag.

Last up we have one of my all time favorite combinations for the holidays- a down to earth-y wrap job that is simple with a twist. Plus, the lucky recipient can try to plant that little seedling or chop it up and mix it in with some post holiday cooking.

Supplies needed:

Brown Kraft paper

Red + white kitchen twine

Red gift tag

Star stamp

White ink

Sprig of rosemary

Directions:
1) Wrap gift with Kraft paper.

2) Cut one long strand of kitchen twine.

3) Tape one end down on the bottom and wrap six times around your gift.

4) Tape the strand in place at the bottom, then come up from the other side and weave through the six rows.

5) Tape in place again at the bottom.

6) Tuck a sprig of rosemary in the twine and add the gift card.
