I have accepted being home alone for the holidays this year, but I’m not letting the micro gathering of my two kids and their Dad deter me from setting a gorgeous Christmas table!
Despite the fact that everything looks different this year : trying to stay healthy during a pandemic, getting through the first year of a divorce and surviving an insane election ,to name a few, I am feeling a pull towards the nostalgia of traditional Christmas colors and themes to keep me grounded, with just a bit of a fresh twist to satisfy the modernist in me.
I have always loved using natural elements in modern designs, and if I can cut it down or clip it out of my backyard, all the better! When I was living out in the New Hampshire countryside along the Connecticut River years ago, I would cut down a little Charlie Brown style Christmas tree every year off of our expansive property. I loved it’s scrawny yet hopeful little branches, like it was just waiting to get all dressed up.
This year I have two styles to choose from: ultra minimalist or greenery laden. I have a little over a week to decide, but it will be easy to make a game time decision as I’ve got a beautiful cedar tree in the backyard begging for a little trim.
I would love to know which one is your favorite and if you’re going with a more traditional theme or something totally new and different!
I love all of the lush greenery above, but I wanted to try something super minimalist as well. A table set to deliberately highlight the food and the company. As a bonus, we can all take turns getting creative with the cranberries, and I’m sure my kids will come up with something to make us laugh.
Likely just chucking them at each other until I call a truce!
Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday of the year, and a beautiful table surrounded by the people I love eating delicious food is the highlight.
What is the highlight for you, if you celebrate, and which of these tablescapes are you drawn to?
Happy holidays eveyone!
With love,
Steph
