Gift Guide 2020- Kid Edition

The other day I handed my kids the latest kids’ toy catalogue, and I may as well have handed them the actual items contained therein.  For a solid 45 minutes, there were hoots and hollers and “Oooh- I want that!” “I love this!!” “This is AH-MAZING!”.

I remember that feeling when I was younger so acutely.  Perusing a fresh catalogue filled with beautiful/fun/exciting items.  There’s this thrill of knowing the possibility exists that you might one day posses this magical thing.

The holidays are coming at a time when our world is still very uncertain, overwhelming and stressful, so I am embracing this time even more tightly than in years past.  I am putting more effort into traditions, decorations and activities, and more thought into the kinds of gifts that will thrill the people I love.

I will be rolling out a series of Gift Guides over the coming weeks to inspire your own thoughtful giving, and I hope this season brings hope and joy to you and yours.

NEWBORN TO 2

Janod Duck Pull Toy

Crate & Kids Janod Duck Pull Toy $25

This is the kind of classic toy that has staying power for a reason.  My kids had a version of it when they were itty bitty, and it was a hit long after it should have been.

Mini Boden Fair Isle Sweater

Mini Boden Fair Isle Knitted Jacket $59

Is there anything cozier than a babe in a knit sheep sweater?  I have loved Mini Boden for my own kiddos. Both new items and new-to-them items.  They make fantastic hand-me-downs, and with this gender neutral motif, it’ll stay in the family for years to come.

Loulou Lollipop Silicone Pacifier Clip

Crate & Kids Loulou Lollipop Rainbow Silicone Pacifier Clip $15

This pacifier clip is great for teething babies whether they’re into pacifiers or not.  The silicone beads are so soothing to little gums and the color palette is so sweet!

Anthropologie Rainbow Block Wagon

Anthropologie Rainbow Block Wagon $118

Blocks are the holy grail of baby gifts, and I love this colorful fresh take on the classic gift.

AGES 2 - 6

Meri Meri Rainbow Necklace

Meri Meri Rainbow Necklace $11

It’s rainbows for days in my house, and I plan to purchase matching necklaces for my kids who are the best of friends.  It’s the perfect stocking stuffer and feels so grownup for a kid to have their own jewelry.  Keep in mind that this is best saved for kids on the older end of this age range who can safely wear it.

Mail Call Playset

Crate & Kids Mail Call Playset $89

We love imagination play in my house, and this mail playset is on my shortlist for my own kids this year.

Mini Boden Unicorn Leggings

Mini Boden Fun Leggings $24

What kid isn’t having a love affair with unicorns right now?

Press Here

Amazon (or your local bookstore) ‘Press Here’ $7.99

I love a good book that actively engages little readers.  ‘Press Here’ encourages young readers to ‘press’, ‘shake’, ‘blow’ and otherwise make the magic happen in this sweet book.

Veterinarian Toy Set

Anthropologie Veterinarian Toy Set $30

This age group is bursting with imagination, and giving them the tools for imaginative play is so key!

AGES 6 - 10

Anthropologie Create Your Own Stamp Kit

Anthropologie Create Your Own Stamp Kit $22

Anthropologie is cranking out the kid gift hits this year, and I was immediately drawn (pun very much intended) to this stamp kit.  After their creations are complete, they can stamp blank cards to use as thank you notes.

Flybar Maverick Pogo Stick

Amazon Flybar Foam Maverick Pogo Stick $38.85

Circa the early 90’s, one of my brothers received a pogo stick for Christmas. We spent a glorious morning bouncing around in the snowless suburban Chicago landscape of our driveway.  It was the best.  Pass the magic on to a kid you love this year who needs to get the wiggles out.

Lakeshore Learning Unicorn Latch Kit

Lakeshore Learning Unicorn Latch Hook Craft Kit $19.99

Unicorns for life.

Young Scientist Microscope Set

Lakeshore Learning Young Scientist Microscope Set $59.99

Is there anything more exciting for young minds than discovering little cellular universes?

Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls

Amazon (or your local bookstore) Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls $16.15

Don’t let the title distract you- this is an excellent book for both girls and boys.  It’s just as important for our girls to see themselves in impactful women as it is for boys to witness female greatness.

I had so much fun putting this list together, and would love to hear what’s on your list for the kids in your life.  This guide is the first in a series, so you can look forward to having all your gift giving needs covered for 2020.

With love,

Steph
